Audition

I've been preparing for my audition for the Contra Costa Civic Theater 08-09 season. You can take a look at their website http://www.ccct.org/. I prepared a song, "Gimme Gimme" from "Thoroughly Modern Millie". I was so nervous because I had to sing 32 bars of a broadway song, do a one-minute monologue and then prepare a resume and hand that in with my headshot. I'm not a professional actress, I just want to do this as my hobby.

So I get there at 6pm Sunday evening and see about five people sitting around, good, I don't feel intimidated, I thought. Christie Hernandez! They call my name and I follow the Artistic Director into the room. She introduces me and I say hello to all, then walk over to the piano and answer the accompanist's questions and make my way to the stage. The music starts and I slowly and patiently make my way through the song only to realize that the accompanist doesn't know the song or what the hell he's doing. Judy (my vocal coach) told me, "make sure to remember that the accompanist will follow and not the other way around. If, for some reason, he stops you keep going." That was exactly what happened, Dude completely screwed up and I was able to sing through without stopping. "Okay, now that we know you can sing would you be interested in Thoroughly Modern Millie also?" YAY! I don't suck! I thought. So now I have to wait to find out if I made it, I'm so excited!
